There you go, you clicked it. Maybe you thought to yourself,

“Yeah, why did you choose Brooks?”

Are you kidding? Did you miss the pictures on the front page? They’re phenomenal!

Let me take this opportunity to share with you my feelings about the educational institution which I am currently attending, Brooks Institute of Photography. Here I will outline some of the good points. I will outline some of the not so good points. In the end, I hope that you have at least some idea of what things are like here in sunny Santa Barbara, California, and for me in particular at the world’s best photographic school.

So what convinced us to travel some 900+ miles from our Utah home to the exquisitely expensive neighborhood of Santa Barbara, California?

Good question. I am still not sure if this was really a sane decision. This thought usually comes about the time rent is due, or those times I get to fork out a substantial amount of cash, (in the hundreds sometimes), to complete an assignment. Gas=more. Movies=more. Catching an occasional burger at the local fast food restaurant=more. Grocery tax=nil. (one previously unknown benefit of living in California). Listening to all of the liberal nut-jobs saying how their only hope is to move to France so they can renew their stifled patriotism=priceless. You can’t know how extreme the “we think everyone should pay more taxes” mantra is until you live here.

That being said, I always come to the conclusion that this is the best place to be right now. I mean, who wouldn’t want a 400% increase in their rent just to further their educational opportunities? At least we get the ocean, not even two miles away.
