Faux-toes. (Think about it)

November 6, 2006 at 11:43 am

I have added a few new video files online. They are test files I have filmed and edited for the purpose of familiarizing myself with the Canon XL-2 digital video camera. These are simply tests, but I have cut them together to (hopefully) be a little more interesting to watch. I would like feedback on any of the content on this site, these videos included. More will come.

(The free Quicktime 7 Player is required to view these files) :

In an attempt to revitalize this site, (and my photography), and despite all of the events that have happened in the last year, (i.e. stolen gear, loss of educational funding, new child, etc) I am going to begin posting Brooks assignment images regularly again. Here are some of the latest shots from an automotive shoot which I just completed. Pretty basic in it’s scope, my job was to photograph

Well, the assignment was self promotion, and I wasn’t really feeling it, until last night. I have been pretty unmotivated lately, mostly due to the whole fiasco we just resolved with our financial aid. Luckily, that’s now over, and everything seems to mostly be on track, bringing along with it my ability and desire to once again

Here is the latest from school, the oldest only one day old. The assignment is advertising oriented, using various methods for sharing a message with text and images. The images creates were shot to have a more contemporary look of traditional advertising that is in the market today. Please don’t hesitate to leave whatever feedback you have about these (extremely) experimental images I’ve produced. I’ll let the images say the rest. Here it is. My first real attempt at food photography. I won’t say much, except that it was extremely difficult to prepare this food for viewing, and not for eating. What are your thoughts? Does it look like something that you would like sitting in front of you? Or would your mother’s

Here are a few of the latest shots that I have taken for ADV311. They’re a result of having to make up the whole session in just over a week. Though I felt a little rushed getting them done, I still feel that things worked out nicely. For the most part, I was able to accomplish what I was aiming for. Of course, with more time… Anyway, feel free to leave any critical feedback, either constructive or congratulatory. I would love to hear what you think…

Well, here I am in Commercial Advertising 311, one of the first classes available here at Brooks Institute during the second year of school. This session has been pretty interesting thus far, providing for many different experiences and emotions. There’s been excitement, burnout, curiosity, dread, and of course, with the latest theft of the majority of my photographic/computer equipment, tragedy. But, all is not lost. While the unfavorable experience has brought quite a few problems, worries, and uncertainties, it has also given me opportunities to explore with new eyes, a fresh mind, all unfettered with the burden of comfort that comes with a long established routine. I cut back on TV, stepped up in creativity, and in the end have accomplished quite a bit more work than I would have thought possible given the circumstances. Ultimately, I’ve discovered one thing again in my life. I am blessed, whether or not I recognize that simple but powerful fact. I’m glad that I haven’t dropped out this session, and started fresh next session. I only hope I can keep working hard enough to feel like this ultimately was a success.

So, in tribute to everything, (good and not so good) that’s happened this session, I have decided that I will upload the most ironic upload since my arrival to Brooks Institute. I am not normally a fashion photographer per se. I find the style and content often too zany, abstract, or obscure

Here are the results of what I would consider a pretty unique opportunity. One of my best friends, Casey McFarland, (and one of the zaniest guys I know), asked if I could shoot a cover photo of him all dressed up in cowboy gear, and then design the photograph to look as though it was the cover photo for Texas Monthly. I jumped at the chance. I knew that the results could only be phenomenal. Casey is actually a very fine photographer himself, located in Logan, Utah. He’s shifted industries, however, to investments and insurance, and is gaining success every day in his new career choice. He ultimately wanted this shot to be printed poster size so he could hang it behind his office desk, and use it as a kind of conversation piece. You really have to know Casey and his wild stories to understand just how funny this is going to be for those who meet him there for the first time.

We were both extremely happy with the final result of the shoot and design, and feel that it has turned out to be a very strong image. So, here’s my question to you: Is this shot good enough to make the cut into the portfolio? I would love to hear your feedback!

Well, here is the final portfolio, just as it is in printed form. I am happy with most of the images, and feel they represent my style fairly well at this point. I hope to be able to make a more cohesive portfolio in the future, or rather multiple portfolios in different categories, each one fluid and cohesive within it’s own category. This is kind of a mish-mash of categories, mainly lifestyle, conceptual, and tabletop/product, in that order. I would love, as always, to get your feedback. It never hurts to know how things are looking from the outside. Thanks for taking the time to visit and see…
