At the behest of my wife, I am officially putting in written form my wishes for our family’s Thanksgiving Meal. This is the “plan”, so to speak, and if this is what it takes to satisfy my love, then so be it.
Ok, let’s not dawdle. First, an overview, then the explanation of each item:
• Smoked Whole Turkey
• Sweet Potato Casserole
• Marinated and Grilled Sodalicious Chicken Lettuce Wraps
• Italian Roll Bread
• Senorial carbonated Sangria with Lime (non-alcoholic)
Smoked Whole Turkey:
I hadn’t had Smoked Turkey, sadly, until about 4 years ago. Even more dismal is the memory of the last 4 years without being able to enjoy the tender, smoked sweetness of that glorious meat since. I committed to enjoy the Smoked Turkey every year after that first glorious love affair 4 years ago, but sadly, that commitment fell by the wayside somewhere in between Christmas and Labor Day the following year. I forgot, and time passed, and here we are today, 4 years later, with only a faint memory of the awful goodness that was bestowed upon me at my dear sister’s house one Thanksgiving. Well, the commitment is revitalized today, and hope will prevail. We will have smoked turkey.
Sweet Potato Casserole
It is ever a joyful moment when one watches the succulent, sexy strands of smoke rise from a mountain of golden nuggets, sweetened by a beautiful glistening coat of brown sugar and butter. Oh how wonderful the sight when the spoon impales the orangy landscape to serve up a large, moist serving of God’s truly great accomplishment. It is at moments like these that one realizes that maybe, just maybe, there was a divine mistake known as the potato, but that it was quickly corrected with this magnificent masterpiece, the Yam. If you want the savory sweetness to sing a joyous hymn to your taste buds, don’t forget the salt.
Marinated and Grilled Sodalicious Chicken Lettuce Wraps
This is a tried and true recipe for marinated meat that will please even the shortest critic. Just as tasty to children as it is to old folks, this moist white meat appetizer is filled with crispy rice noodles and barley, wrapped in lettuce leaves, and dipped in the special grilling marinade. You can’t go wrong with something that calls for soda in the recipe!
Italian Roll Bread
This yet unmade recipe is at this point simply a figment of my imagination. I envision something seasoned, tasty, and Italian, as the name suggests. Plump with fresh herbs, garlic, and sun-dried tomatoes, these rolls are bound to be a filling treat.
Sangria with Lime
Well, it wouldn’t be a true American celebration without a little flavor from down south, and what better than the bubbly burgundy beverage straight from Mexico, the truly tasty Senorial Sangria. But it isn’t complete without the touch of fresh squeezed lime to give it that kick. Sangria helps you enjoy your meal to the fullest by adding that pop and fizzle feeling to your tongue with every swig. Don’t be fooled; It’s not Soda, it’s Sangria.
If you have any suggestions or additions to the list, please leave a comment down below. If you would like a recipe for any of these delicious menu items, feel free to request that here, too. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving as much as we are going to. It is bound to be a treat, with this lineup. Happy cooking!

Hi Ron,
I graduated from Brooks in 1991, and we had the same groups of students you write about back then even with Ernie Jr. at the helm!
I would love your recipe for Marinated and Grilled Sodalicious Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and your Sangria with Lime recipe. Turkey Day is coming fast.
All the best with your education! When do you graduate? Stick with it, this investigation thing will pass. There was plenty of controversy back in my day too, like when Ernie’s son Dan disappeared with all the money. As far as I know, he never was found.
