π. That is the greek symbol for pi. It actually stands for the greek letter p. The statement “π = -1(R)” is also true. At least today it is.
I am writing this post at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. I should be in class right now..Math class. I am not. I am at home on my couch. “So what?”, you ask? So, what does this all have to do with Pi?
Well, today I left class early, (on congenial terms), because my teacher was showing the movie “π”. That is the name of the movie. You see, I have made a personal decision not to watch any movie bearing the “R” rating, or higher. (Of course, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the R-rating is my limit, not just the exception).
Now, I have reasonably loose standards when it comes to movie watching. I’ll watch just about anything, as long as it doesn’t have too much garbage in it. I don’t care if it is Disney or Dreamworks. Whether it’s Pixar or Paramount, I’ll give it a shot as long as it’s theme and/or content aren’t completely unnecessary. I mean, come on. Do you really think I want to watch a movie about a guy that drills a hole through his head at the end.
How depressing. I would rather spend my time doing more productive things; like baking cheesecake, for instance. I guess I just don’t get a thrill from seeing the darkest sides of humanity. I would rather watch something that is about the dreamer, the achiever. Call me naive. I prefer to consider myself “in-tune”. I am trying to be in-tune with the level of greatness that I am destined for. That gonna be so easy if I am filling my mind with all of the darkest, meanest, saddest, most degrading things the human mind can create. Try “Joe vs. the Volcano”. That is something that can lift you out of a depressing moment in a snap.
Today the decision for me was not about whether or not to receive the credit for being in the class. I did the math. π = -1(R). The decision was simple. Simple as “π”.
